Setting you straight on your orthodontic journey

We know that for many of our patients, orthodontic treatment is a whole new experience. That is why the team at Dan Smethurst Orthodontist in Tauranga is committed to doing everything we can to make your first visit easy and worry-free.

From your first visit to your last, we will be with you every step of the way. Take a look at what happens at your initial visit, to the process of starting treatment.

What happens at a new patient visit?

Your first visit to Dan Smethurst is an important one. As you start your orthodontic treatment, you will be welcomed by Specialist Orthodontist, Dan. He will start by taking a look at your smile and assessing your orthodontic needs. He will spend time getting to know you and your reasons for seeking orthodontic treatment. Together, you will discuss the treatment options available based on your lifestyle and smile goals.

During your first visit, we encourage you to ask any questions that you have about your orthodontic treatment. It is really important to us that you feel comfortable every step of the way.

Starting treatment

In order for us to prepare a bespoke treatment plan for you, we will start to gather information to support your treatment. This will include a thorough evaluation of your orthodontic needs and an outline of the different treatments that would benefit you.

  • Digital records: we will take x-rays, photographs, and impressions. These diagnostic records help our specialist orthodontist to develop the most effective treatment plan for you.
  • Treatment planning: we will cover every aspect of the treatment plan that we recommend, and show you the appliances that will be used. We will discuss any risks and limitations of your treatment as part of our informed consent process.
  • Cost and payment: all available costs and payment options will be explained in detail, giving you peace of mind. We will also provide you with a summary of Dan’s results, your recommended treatment, information about the appliance, general orthodontic information, and a financial agreement.
  • Getting started: once a treatment plan and the costs have been agreed upon, you will be ready to get started! We will arrange your fitting appointment and discuss teeth and appliance care.

Please feel free to ask any questions you have at any stage of the process. Our main aim is to make sure that all of our patients are heard and cared for to the very best of our abilities.
