One step closer to the smile of your dreams
For many of our patients, pursuing orthodontic treatment is a new experience. But don’t worry, our team at Dan Smethurst Orthodontist in Tauranga will do everything we can to make your first visit easy!
What happens during a new patient visit?
Your first visit is an important step in kicking off your orthodontic treatment. You will meet with our specialist orthodontist, Dan Smethurst, so he can take a look at your smile and assess your orthodontic needs. He will spend time with you discussing the treatment options that are available and get to understand more about your reasons for seeking out orthodontic treatment. We want to understand your lifestyle and goals so that we can make the best recommendations possible for you. Also, be sure to ask questions! We pride ourselves on putting our patients first and making sure you feel comfortable every step of the way.
If you are ready to start treatment, we will collect all necessary information in order to prepare a bespoke treatment plan. This includes a thorough evaluation of your orthodontic needs and outline of the different treatment methods to benefit you.
- Digital records: we will begin taking necessary records including x-rays, photographs and impressions for digital study models. These diagnostic records enable our orthodontist to develop a suitable treatment plan.
- Treatment planning: we discuss every aspect of the treatment plan we recommend, showing you the appliances that would be used. We also discuss the risks and limitations of orthodontic treatment as part of our informed consent process.
- Cost and payment: all costs and payment options available will be explained in detail. We will also provide you with a summary of the orthodontist’s findings, recommended treatment, information about the appliances to be used, general orthodontic information and a financial agreement.
- Getting started: once you’ve selected a treatment plan and we’ve agreed upon payment, you’re ready to get started. We will get you scheduled for your fitting appointment.
If you decide to move forward with orthodontic treatment, you will need to have a general understanding of our procedure.
